WHO IS CURE DEBT?  CAN WE HELP YOU BECOME DEBT FREE AND LIVE A DEBT FREE LIFE?

Instead of living a debt free life, a large portion of the population in South Africa is over-indebted and experiences financial difficulties. Therefore, this article will provide you with some habits that people who're living a debt free life follow.

SOCIETY BELIEF THAT IT IS NORMAL TO HAVE DEBT
What’s heartbreaking is the fact that it is considered a normal scenario for individuals to have debt.  Even if it is only a small amount of debt.  We firmly believe this piece will provide guidelines to living a debt free life.

What is the average debt in S.A. households:
The average South African household has at least R100 000.00 (one hundred thousand rand) worth of debt. That is not even taking into consideration the bond on the property they own or the vehicle they bought on hire-purchase. Credit card accounts, clothing accounts, overdrafts, etc.

DEBT:  WHY THE NECESSITY?
We are living in a society that wants everything now. There’s no delayed gratification. By making this bold statement, it basically means that instead of saving for that nice dress or pair of shoes, you would rather open a clothing account and buy it on the account and pay the interest on the shoes and dress because you want it now and don’t want to wait until you’ve got the cash to pay for it.

Change is a necessity to ensure financial stability.
By changing these habits, we can go a long way in helping ourselves become debt free. If you take the R2–R5 000 per month, you’re paying towards your clothing account and using those funds to buy the clothes you want.

I guarantee you; you’re still going to have the latest and best fashions in your cupboards, and you’ll be able to stay abreast of them much easier than dumping yourself in debt.

IT’S HUMAN NATURE TO LIKE NICE THINGS.
We, as human beings, like nice things. Whether it is that nice pair of shoes or that new Mercedes, it’s normal to want it, but the big question is, is it a necessity?

Why don’t we drive our cars until the wheels come off and it is necessary to buy a new car or wear the same shoes until it breaks, and you need a new pair.

Society decided that it is good to always have the best, the latest, and the nicest, even if we cannot afford it. This way, we will never become debt free, and we will never live a debt free life.

SOCIETY’S UNWRITTEN RULES DO YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW IT?
Because of these unwritten rules society have dumped upon us, we are under tremendous pressure to abide by them, but the big question is. Can you afford it? Do you really want to have no cashflow and live in debt your whole life?

IS IT WORTH IT?
Do you want to struggle financially just to be able to abide by rules a society set? Which, is completely unreasonable? Why do you need to have the best, the latest, and the nicest, of anything? Why not work with what you’ve got?

WHAT DO YOU THINK?  CAN YOU SEE YOURSELF AS EVER BEING DEBT FREE?
Most people believe that it is impossible to live a debt free life.  But on the contrary, there are people who do live a debt free life. I’ve met extraordinary individuals, businessmen, and women who live debt free lives.

You can live a debt free life as well. Life is all about choices. You might say to yourself, 'It's easy for you to talk, these people have money to do whatever they want'.  Is this really true?

Have you ever thought of the person who is living a debt free life and how they did it? Have you ever wondered how they got to the point of making that decision. I know of a few businessmen and women who live truly extraordinary debt free lives, but it wasn’t always that way.

Some of them were declared bankrupt at some stage in their lives, some of them even more than once. But they got up every time and started over again, only to be triumphant in the end. Today, we have the privilege to learn from these people and how they did it. You can do it too.

HOW DID THEY DO IT?
Here are a few habits we learned from people who're living debt free lives:
1.
They do not believe that it is impossible to live a debt free life.
2.
They don’t believe that it is normal to have debt.
3.
They stopped making excuses for themselves to make it normal to have debt.
4.
They work on a strict budget.
5.
They realised, through trial and error, that debt only causes unnecessary stress in their lives.
6.
They do not see a credit card as a source of income, but rather as an emergency tool, pay it off as soon as possible, and never use it, unless there’s no other alternative.
7.
If you can't afford it, you don’t deserve it. You only deserve it when you have the money to pay for it.
8.
Ask yourself the following question every time you feel like buying something: 'Is it a want or a need?'  Do you want it because your friend has one, or do you need it because you cannot do your work or study without it, etc.?
9.
Don’t buy anything to impress another person, group, or individual.
10.
Find a second job, work overtime, etc. make more money that will enable you to buy whatever you want or need without having to go into debt to do so.
11.
And finally, get out of the revolving credit cycle.

This is the advice, in a nutshell, that we were provided with, when doing our research for this article.
